Mon été francais
It is said that France is called the land of love, arts and pleasure. With my trip through France I wanted to find out whether this reputation is justified. I can already say that I was very impressed by the diversity and hospitality of this country and the impressions I gained during this trip are precious and an inspiration for me as an interior designer.
The greatest luxury I had with me was time, and I took the liberty of using it generously for each stage. So I was able to enjoy every minute of my journey through the picturesque villages and the endless expanses of the French interior. Anyone who only expects vineyards underestimates the amazing diversity of this country. French agriculture plays a prominent role in the French economy and also in culture. This explains why French cuisine is considered one of the best in the world.
Here is the story of my very own French summer:
STRASBOURG IN ALSACE
Strasbourg is an absolute must when traveling through France, as the city combines fascinating history and modern culture. Its breathtaking old town with well-preserved half-timbered houses takes visitors back in time. The city's landmark, Strasbourg Cathedral, is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and offers impressive views. The city is famous for its unique mix of French and German culture, which is reflected in both the architecture and the regional cuisine. Strasbourg is also home to the European Parliament, which is why it is considered a symbol of European unity. The city is proud of its role in European integration and offers the opportunity to learn more about the political dimension of Europe. In addition, Strasbourg's picturesque canals and the possibility of taking a boat tour are another attraction not to be missed. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly locals make a visit to Strasbourg an unforgettable experience.
POCHEY IN THE BOURGOGNE
Bourgogne is known for its world-class vineyards and wines. A wine tasting and a visit to one of the countless chateaus are an absolute must here. Pochey is a small, charming village in the middle of this picturesque landscape of rolling hills and diverse agriculture. We recommend a relaxing stay in the hotel Le Domaine des Prés Verts. Here you can experience the rural French way of life and enjoy the delicious cuisine of Burgundy.
MARVEJOLS IN OCCETANIA
Have you ever heard of Occetants? At least I didn't until my journey took me to Marvejols. Occitanie is a region in the south of France, stretching from the Pyrenees in the south to the Mediterranean coast in the east. Marvejols is an enchanting place that has a fascinating medieval atmosphere and transports you to another time. Appropriately, I stayed overnight in a former castle-like hunting estate, Domaine de Carrière. The surroundings of Marvejols offer breathtaking nature and the region's local dishes, especially the diverse cheeses and lamb dishes, can be enjoyed in the excellent restaurant at the Domaine de Carrière.
TOULOUSE IN MIDI-PYRÉNÉES
I was very impressed by the city of Toulouse. Known as “La Ville Rose” (the pink city), it welcomes visitors with a unique mix of history and fun-loving culture. Toulouse is rich in impressive churches, picturesque squares and museums. The charming streets are full of nice bars and great restaurants, serving great regional and international cuisine. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the city is striking and characterized by many young people and students. Together with the city's charming architecture, Toulouse gives a welcoming and lively atmosphere.
MARSEILLE IN PROVENCE-ALPES
Wow - this city is absolutely crazy! This city offers a unique combination of Mediterranean flair, multi-culturalism and history. On one block it is ugly and cruel and one corner away there are charming cafés and chic shops that invite you to stroll around. The old town, Le Panier, is a charming labyrinth of narrow streets and colorful buildings that reflects the local culture and heritage of the city, which is also a melting pot of diverse cultures. A recommendation for an overnight stay in Marseilles is the hotel Mainsons du Monde in the middle of the Vieux Port. The famous harbor is a vibrant place. Must have here: A traditional bouillabaisse, the famous fish soup, in the restaurant La Daurade. If you are in Marseilles you should definitely make the climb to the church of Notre-Dame de la Garde. The basilica sits on a hill high above the city and is one of its landmarks. Once you reach the top you will be rewarded with a spectacular view far across the Mediterranean.
MOUGINS ON THE CÔTE D'AZUR
My last stop took me to the charming town of Mougins. This place, picturesquely located on a hill from which the breathtaking view of the Côte d'Azur impresses. It is pleasant that cars are not allowed in Mougins - so you can explore the picturesque streets of the charming old town on foot undisturbed and in peace and take a well-deserved break in one of the countless restaurants. The city has a special culinary reputation and is home to several highly acclaimed restaurants, including the famous restaurant Le Moulin de Mougins. Mougins is a paradise for foodies and is also world-famous for its artistic history. The village was the adopted home of famous artists such as Pablo Picasso. Mougins' Picasso Museum is a cultural highlight that offers insight into the artist's life.
The boutique hotel La Réserve in the heart of the city is the perfect place to relax and reflect on what you have experienced. The relaxed atmosphere and artful surroundings make Mougins one of the most unique and enchanting places in France, offering a perfect mix of culture, art and enjoyment.
From Alsatian romance to Mediterranean joie de vivre - France showed me how beautiful it is in every place. The country and the people inspired and enchanted me. This trip gave me an impressive insight into the diversity and charm of the country and I am - how should I say - je suis amoureux...
